It is used to effectively treat rheumatism, rheumatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gouty arthritis, muscular rheumatism, sciatica, osteoarthritis, periarthritis of the shoulder and degenerative arthritis of lumbar spine.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Han Shi Bi Tang is specifically designed to treat the Invasion by Wind, Cold and Damp with predominance of Cold and Damp. This will typically occur to those that have suffered prolonged exposure to cold and damp weather, prolonged living or working in cold damp place, frequent wearing of damp clothes after excessive sweating, and weakness of Wei-Qi.
