Navigating Shen Martial Arts Dit Da Jow selection
Shen Martial Arts offers a very large variety of Dit Da Jow liniments to fit the different needs and preferences of our customers. But, unless you already have a specific type in mind or already know what you are looking for, choosing one to use can be a daunting task. Here are some tips and additional information to help make this easier for you.
2 (3) Main Categories:
First, the Shen Martial Arts website has 3 selections under the main Dit Da Jow page: 1) Dit Da Jow, 2) Shen Herbal Formulas, and 3) Iron Palm Formulas. Each of these has a button you can use to go directly to each, or you can scroll down the page and find each section.

At this time, we are still working on loading the Shen Herbal Formulas section, and may even change its name to be more descriptive, so it is a work in progress. That leaves 2 main categories with the good stuff, the Dit Da Jow section, and the Iron Palm section.
The Dit Da Jow section has those formulas used for bumps, bruises, tears, pulls, strains, soreness, fatigue and pain. For lack of a better description, we will refer to these as general use formulas.
There is much more to these formulas for example, they work well for arthritis pain and some relieve headaches when dabbed between the eyebrows, on the back of the neck or on the temples, but that will be addressed in another post.

The Iron Palm section has formulas that are used for intensive, repetitive striking to strengthen and condition not just the palms, but other body surfaces including fists, fingers, feet, shins, forearms, abdomen and more. This is referred to as Iron Skills or Iron Body training.

These formulas share one characteristic, they are cooling or cold in nature. This does not mean that they will feel cold to the touch, but rather that they are energetically cold and will cool down heat in the body. In a sense, Iron Palm formulas are specialized Dit Da Jow. Iron Palm and Iron Body practices generate tremendous internal heat, which if not cooled, can damage and injury tissues, bones and joints. The heat can also enter the body meridians and travel to distal locations and even to internal organs. These formulas contain herbs and combinations that further diminish from the damaging effects of Iron Skills training. This is why anyone involved in or considering any type of Iron Skills training must use an authentic Iron Palm formula, preferably under the guidance of an experienced instructor.
3 Sub-Category Designations:

Under the 2 classifications Dit Da Jow, or Iron Palm, we have 3 other designations: 1) Masters Series Formulas; 2) Lineage Series Formulas; and, 3) Traditional Training Formulas. These are still not separate categories on the website but you can recognize them by their designation on the label. They are soon to be added to site navigation as searchable categories. For now, they are part of the 2 main categories but identifiable by their label designation.

The Masters series represents those formulas created by famous and highly skilled masters and used by their legacy students.

Authentic versions of these formulas are very rare as they are jealously guarded and given only to those deemed by the master to be deserving. In very rare occasions, the formula is given to a non-student or outsider. This carries great honor to the recipient and is meant to convey great respect. These formulas are also very famous, so there are many non-authentic versions being sold.
Shen Martial Arts is fortunate to have authentic, original formulas and it is our great honor that the Masters series formulas we offer, were given to us by Masters, legitimate representatives, inheritors, elder associates, and/or recognized authorities respectively, to commend our work in the promotion of true Dit Da Ke.

Similarly, the Lineage series is made up of formulas that originate in a certain style or school of martial arts but are not attributed to any one master. Lineage formulas tend to be older, with the formula now associated with the history and part of the heritage of the lineage and the inheritance of future generations. In several instances, lineage formulas are attributed to various generations of masters, thus being a shared creation.
Finally, there are the Shen Traditional Training Formulas, which are formulas that do not fall into either the Masters or Lineage designations. These are well proven, sought after, training and healing formulas. Formulas under this designation can be identified on their label as shown below.

These are all excellent formulas, no less than those of the Masters and Lineage series groups. In fact, this category has some of the oldest formulas and some of the most unique herbal combinations we offer.

They come from varied backgrounds and sources and exhibit very different herbal combinations and approaches but still with the same objectives and therefore very much belonging to the Dit Da Jow family and to Dit Da Ke medicine.
Summary & Final Tips
This breakdown of how our offerings are organized into 2 main categories, each with 3 sub-categories is meant to provide a "lay of the land" and help navigate simplify the elimination process, as we continue to improve and update the site. In addition, here are some tips you can use to shorten the list and zero in on the best product for your needs:
If you do not train martial arts, but need a pain relief, healing liniment, go to the Dit Da Jow section, or the healing
If you train in martial arts, determine if you need a regular training liniment or an Iron Palm formula. Simply, if you are not training Iron Palm, Iron Body or any of the Iron Skills, then you need a product from the Dit Da JIf you train in martial arts, what style do you practice. See if you can find your style in the lineage series formulas. If not, ask your instructor to help selecting a formula from a similar style.
If you are looking for something very specific, like “Neck Pain”, enter that in the search function.
As the list of possible products gets smaller, starting diving into the product descriptions and read them thoroughly. Read again before making a purchase.
If you are still not quite sure, contact me. You can email or message. If needed we can set up a phone call.
